The Power of Protein

9th September, 2008 - Posted by admin -

Protein plays a very important role in our daily life. It is not only the energy source which we require in large quantity like about 100 grams to 150 grams of protein every single day it also helps build and maintain strong muscles,  helps prevent muscle and bone breakdown and Protein helps control hunger and is essential for energy.

Unfortunately 65% of Indians are Vegetarian and get only 30% of daily allowance of protein from the Natural source.

When we eat Lean protein, in 15 minutes our body released Glucogan. Glucogan helps to Raises Blood Sugar by Converting Protein and Fat into Glucose, Burns Fat, Decreases Cholesterol Production, Increases Release of Growth Hormone, Decreases smooth muscles cells in vessel walls, Makes Kidney release fluid, Releases fat from fat cells for energy, Makes dietary fats into ketones for energy, Shifts metabolism into a burning Mode.

What David Heber, M.D., Ph.D., F.A.C.P., F.A.C.N.Chairman of the Herbalife Nutrition and Scientific Advisory Boards, says in his aurticle that First off, protein is more satisfying than the other two macronutrients because of specific signals it sends to the brain. When we eat protein instead of sugars (carbs) and fats, the body feels more full which helps people control their appetite between meals, thus cutting calories and controlling their weight. Recent clinical research has supported this physiologic phenomenon.

A second reason for choosing protein as a main food is its thermogenic effect. This refers to the metabolic tax a food puts on the body after we eat it. This metabolic tax for protein is much higher than sugar ( carbs) or fat because the body uses more energy to digest it. This means that when you choose protein over the other two, you are burning more calories during the process of digestion. Having this higher tax rate is good because protein tends to be low in caloric content, so the body is working harder on fewer calories.

The best protein-rich foods are those that are low in fat, such as high-protein breakfast shakes, chicken or turkey breast, egg whites, fish and shellfish, very lean cuts of red meat and low-fat or non-fat dairy products. Limit high-fat

protein foods such as cheese, most red meat cuts, sausages and full-fat dairy products.

With Herbalife Nutrition Shake mix you will get 9 grams of Pure Soy protein and another 5 grams from personalized protein powder which is mix of whey ( milk) and soy protein.
